Last chance for poetry: Displayed Words in the Berlin State Library!
The district mayor of Mitte, Stefanie Remlinger, has recently announced interesting news in the cultural sector that addresses art lovers and literary enthusiasts alike. In the State Library in Berlin, Haus Potsdamer Straße, the Literature project Displayed Words will start its last round on September 10, 2024. This innovative initiative combines language, text and poetry in digital formats and thus creates a fascinating synthesis from literature and contemporary art.
The highlight of the project is a digital scoreboard on the balcony above the main entrance of the State Library, on which texts of renowned artists and authors are presented. The participating artists include the Moabiter rapper APSILON, the Afro -German poet May Ayim, the English theater author Tim Etchells, Logan February, a Nigerian poet, the Austrian author Friederike Mayröcker and the Mexican writer Cristina Rivera Garza. Through public readings on site and an accompanying publication, the literary project Displayed Words becomes a unique experience in urban space.
The project is accompanied by CCA Berlin - Center for Contemporary Arts in cooperation with the Berlin artist program of the DAAD, the district office Mitte and the State Library in Berlin. The generous promotion from the outer city of the Senate Administration for Culture and Social Cohesion underlines the importance and the cultural value of Displayed Words.events
The official opening of Displayed Words takes place on September 10, 2024 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and includes readings by Friederike Mayröcker, presented by Rike Scheffler, as well as readings by May Ayim, presented by Savannah Sipho. In addition, there will be a reading and music performance with Logan February and Otis Mensah on October 6, 2024 from 3-16.30 p.m. These events offer the opportunity to experience poetry and artistic works directly and to immerse yourself in the world of words.
Another cultural highlight in Berlin-Mitte is the exhibition of the Swiss AT publisher in the Philipp-Schaeffer library. From September 2 to October 31, 2024, the publisher presented its diverse program and invites visitors to enter the subject areas of cooking and baking, medicine and health, nature experience, psychoactive plants and shamanism, shaping with nature as well as Switzerland and hiking. The exhibition copies are ready for borrowing after the end of the presentation, so that the literary experience can be continued.
In addition, the exhibition of the publisher Community Editions in the Schiller library from September 2 to October 25, 2024 offers a wide selection of books for different age groups and interests. From cookbooks to children's books, from novels to advice, the publisher presents a multifaceted program that reflects the variety of literature. Visitors to the exhibition have the opportunity to borrow the books and thus explore the world of literature.
