Leipzig is pushing for top sports agency: a glimmer of hope for the coal region!

Leipzig, Deutschland - The city of Leipzig has officially submitted its application as a location for the planned top sports agency. Saxony's Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) emphasized on Deutschlandfunk that Leipzig was ideal as a "neutral" place compared to Frankfurt and Berlin. It hopes for positive effects, not only for the sports agency itself, but also for the Institute for Applied Training Science and the University of Leipzig. Schuster is optimistic about the opportunities for the settlement in the "coal region", whereby the federal government has guaranteed to develop a special settlement concept.

The independent sports agency will in future lead the promotion of specialist associations of the Federal Ministry of the Interior. This includes the allocation of funds and the further development of the "Potas" potential analysis system in criticism. Although Schuster does not expect any fundamental changes in the Sports Promotion Act, there is still no final decision by the Federal Cabinet about the agency structure.
