Focus on art and the environment: Exhibition Changing opened in Berlin
On Thursday, June 5, 2025, the exhibition "Changing-Standstill is an illusion" opens in the Kommunalen Galerie Berlin Hohenzollerndamm 176, 10713 Berlin. This event promises to become a special highlight in the cultural calendar, since the district councilor Heike Schmitt-Melz will take over the opening.
The exhibition runs from June 6th to August 31, 2025 and is the result of an exciting cooperation between art performance courses from the Heinz-Berggruen-Gymnasium and the Eastern Cross School for Photography. In their work, pupils have photographed changes in social and ecological structures. The pictures reflect personal approaches to global topics within the private microcosm of those involved.

Visitors can look forward to a musical supporting program, which is designed by the Bigband of the Heinz-Berggruen-Gymnasium under the direction of Claudia Rocca. Not only the participants of the art courses are invited to the festivities, but also teachers and friends of the schools. Admission to the event is free of charge and registration is not required.
photography as a mirror of the environment
The importance of photography in the consideration of ecological and social topics also becomes clear in other exhibitions, such as the current show "Image Ecology" in the C/O Berlin. This exhibition addresses the toxic aspects of photography and asks about the ecological sustainability of photo productions. It is pointed out that digital cameras contain rare earths that are broken down under extreme conditions, and that analog photography also uses problematic materials such as celluloid film, which contains saltpeters that are brutally obtained in the Chilean atacama desert.
The exhibition "Image Ecology" is not only a critical examination of the processes behind photo production, but also examines the energy generation in connection with the storage and distribution of photos. Curator Boaz Levin has invited artists who use historical procedures such as heliography and anthotype. One of the highlights is Tristan Duke's work, the glacier ice cream used for a lens to photograph its ice sea expedition.
The current situation in photography and its effects on the environment are an increasingly important topic. The events and exhibitions such as those in the municipal gallery Berlin and in C/O Berlin help to raise awareness of these challenges and to promote dialogue about it. Further information can be found on the respective galleries websites.
