Artist and homosexual: The life of Herman Bang in Berlin

a tribute to Herman Bang: A Dane who found his home in Berlin

The famous Danish writer and journalist Herman Bang, who lived from 1857 to 1912, was not only known for his artistic work during his lifetime, but also for his open confession to his homosexuality, which repeatedly earned him hostility. Berlin magically put on him and offered him temporarily protection and inspiring calm - his familiar "pheasant island".

Herman Bang's life path and his connection to Berlin are now celebrated in a touching exhibition in the house on Barbarossaplatz. At the opening of this exhibition, a literary city walk took place, in which greetings from Birgitte Tovborg Jensen were spoken by the Royal Danish embassy and the curator and lecturer at the Volkshochschule Tempelhof-Schönberg, Raimund Wolfert. The exhibition offers insights into the life and work of this extraordinary artist, which, despite all the obstacles, went its way.

Until July 14, 2024, visitors have the opportunity to visit the exhibition and be enchanted by the fascinating world of Herman Bangs. Immerse yourself in the world of a man who proved courage and remained true to himself, even if the world around him was not always understanding. Discover the beauty of his "pheasant island" in the middle of the bustle of Berlin.
