Criticism of new building funding: Is it really climate -friendly?

Excess in Berlin! The Federal Government starts a new funding program under the sonorous name "Climate -friendly new building in the low -price segment" (KNN). But behind this facade there is nothing more than a weak attempt to create the urgently needed living space. Since the KfW funding stopped in January 2022, the insufficient energy efficiency standard EH55 has finally been invested, but this is almost an impending signal for everyone who hope for real progress.

This is a wake -up call for everyone who fights for affordable living space! The German Environmental Aid (DUH) raises the alarm: its federal manager Barbara Metz sharply criticizes that the new requirements are not only socially but also ecologically catastrophic.

criticism of the lack of economy

"This new building funding is a mogue pack and shows the federal government's lack of planning in housing policy," explains Metz and sums it up. There is no sign of a well thought -out plan that could ensure really affordable and climate -friendly living space.

Instead, the government has decided to introduce a minimum dream number staggered by apartment - and that, without effective rental price limits! The residents are left alone from high energy costs, while Minister of Construction Geywitz releases the outdated building standard. Shocking, right?

funding without clear strategies

To tighten the whole thing: A total of 2 billion euros are available for new KNN new construction funding in 2024 and 2025. What sounds great, however, quickly becomes a farce when you consider that the household in the Bundestag offers hardly any clear guidelines for implementation!

The plan provides for two support variants of the same age. While one is immediately available with the outdated EH55 standard, the KfW leaves everyone in the dark with the sustainable EH40 standard. Where's progress?

These processes throw a bright light on the decisions of those responsible and the prevailing ignorance towards urgent social and ecological needs of the population. It quickly becomes clear that the DUH's demands are justified. A targeted use of the funding is now more necessary than ever if we actually want to make a difference!
