Fuel prices in January 2024: Stable compared to the previous month - multi -tank evaluation

January 2024 was largely stable for German fuel prices. Despite the increase in the CO2 tax, prices on the comparison platform "multi-tank" rose only slightly. The average price for Super E5 was 1.787 euros per liter, for Super E10 at 1.728 euros per liter and for diesel at 1.706 euros per liter.

Although the month of the month was stable, there were large price fluctuations within a day. On January 17, the deviations between 12 cents for Super E5 and E10 and 13 cents were for diesel. With a tank volume of 60 liters, the per fuel filling could make up 7.20 euros and be just under 350 euros for the year. It is also worth comparing the prices at the motorway filling stations. In Saxony, prices were 0.422 euros higher than the federal average for Super E5.

In terms of regional differences, it was shown that North Rhine-Westphalia and the Saarland in January had the lowest average price for diesel fuel. Berlin had the lowest prices for Super E5 and Super E10. Thuringia, on the other hand, was the most expensive federal state for fuels.

There were also differences in the price level at the city level. In January, the cheapest cities were Hilden (1.716 euros), Langenfeld (1.720 euros) and Regensburg (1.719 euros). The most expensive cities were Garbsen (1.871 euros), Dormagen (1.873 euros) and Constance (1.901 euros).

The cheapest and most expensive brands from the previous year continued in January 2024 at the petrol station brands. Ed, Orlen and Oil! Were the cheapest brands while Aral, Shell and Gulf were among the most expensive. The choice of the petrol station brand can mean on average a saving of up to 7 cents per liter.

The “Auto Motor und Sport” brand comparison platform offers an app that not only uses the data of the market transparency center of the Federal Cartel Office, but also fuel prices registered by users. The app indicates the fuel prices in a list and map view and gives recommendations whether it is worth waiting to wait with refueling due to expected price cuts. In addition, the app also offers information about charging stations for electric cars and hydrogen filling stations.

In conclusion, it should be mentioned that the Motor Press Stuttgart is one of the leading special interest media houses and publishes publications such as Auto Motor and Sport.
