Headless attacker remains unidentified
A terrible incident occurred on January 28 of this year on Schierker Strasse: A young woman named Nayla P. was attacked and stabbed in the middle of the street during the day and in the middle of the street. Nayla suffered serious injuries and lost part of her lungs. Fortunately, she survived the attack that sounds like a scene from a bad thriller. But the incredible thing about the story is that the perpetrator has not yet been identified.
The police only publicly searched for the headless attacker four months after the crime with excerpts from a surveillance video. It is a man who went to Nayla from behind and attacked her twelve times with a knife. Fortunately, she was able to defend herself and ward off the attacker, otherwise she may be dead. The young woman spent two weeks in the hospital and has been suffering from the psychological consequences of the incident.
Nayla feels abandoned by the police, especially because of the allegation, which is only dangerous bodily harm. In her view, however, it is an attempted murder, since the perpetrator acted with the intention to kill and only deviated from his goal because of her resistance. The Berlin public prosecutor sees it differently and ordered the case as a dangerous bodily harm. As a result, the State Criminal Police Office, which specializes in killing, but the Directorate 5 of the Berlin police is responsible for the investigation. Nayla's lawyer Linh Steffen disagrees and takes the view that the stab wounds clearly indicate a resolution and a resignation is questionable.
Cooperation with the Directorate 5 is difficult because it has fewer resources than the State Criminal Police Office. The evaluation of the surveillance camera recordings was apparently not carried out immediately, but only published four months later. The incident became less well known and references to the perpetrator have so far failed.
nayla is stunned that her attacker is still running freely and there is no trace of him. It feels surreal for them and she feels that the investigation is not taken seriously enough. She suspects that her origin and activities as sex workers and occasional drugs from drugs could play a role. Her lawyer also criticizes the handling of the investigative authorities with the case and emphasizes that much more effort is made in similar actions with children. It calls for a public interest in investigating the incident.
The Berlin public prosecutor rejects the allegations and explains that the public prosecutor's assessment is based on the principle of the principle of doubt. One must first assume that there are indications of a resignation from the killing goal. However, this could still change in court. The resignation serves as a "golden bridge" to give the perpetrator the opportunity to refrain from his project and thus to maintain a milder punishment. However, the investigative instruments remained the same.
Nayla and her lawyer have no confidence in the investigation and are disappointed with the treatment of the case. Nayla still suffers from the consequences of the attack and no longer stays in Neukölln, where the incident happened. She currently lives in Spandau and is looking for a new place to stay. She hopes that the perpetrator can finally be caught and she can live again without fear.
