Commission must push the EU regulation against deforestation

The Commission must initiate the postponement of the Eudr (EU regulation against deforestation). The wood -based material industry needs clear framework conditions and impulses to cope with the economic and ecological crisis. A short -term decision to postpone would be a strong sign for less reporting obligations and bureaucracy, emphasizes Anemon Strohmeyer, managing director of the association of the German wood -based industry. The association represents the interests of the manufacturers of wood materials and stands for a responsible and sustainable handling of the raw material wood. Commission must push the EU regulation against deforestation

Move

Eudr - now! The Commission must now take the issue of action in hand and at short notice the shift of the Eudr's entry into force

The European Commission is faced with an important decision: it is about the shift in the entry into force of the EU regulation against Deforing (Eudr). The wood -based material industry requires a quick need for action, since many crucial questions are still unclear. A shift in the entry into force is necessary to give the company enough time for implementation.

The wood -based material industry supports the goal of deforestation -free products that are to be achieved with the Eudr. Nevertheless, there are still many questions that have to be clarified for a successful implementation. The companies are already in the process of binding resources for this implementation, although the core elements of the regulation have not yet been determined. In times of economic and ecological crises, however, these resources are urgently needed.

Therefore, the wood -based material industry calls on the Commission to make a decision to postpone the entry into force. It is time to pull the ripcord and not to implement a regulation on bending and breaking. The goal of the Eudr, the fight against deforestation, is important and correct. However, the parameters and framework conditions must be clearly defined in order to enable practical implementation.

A short -term decision to postpone the introductory period would be a strong sign for the reduction in reporting obligations and bureaucracy emphasized by Leyen. The wood material industry needs clear requirements to be able to take the right way.

The decision of the Commission will also have an impact on Eudr's reputation. It is important that this important regulation does not become another bureaucratic monster, but can be implemented practical.

The wood -based material industry hopes for a quick decision by the Commission to ensure clarity and planning security. An extension of the introductory period in autumn or even under the Christmas tree would not help the value chain.

The shift in the entry into force of the Eudr is a decisive measure to give the company enough time to prepare and implement. Time is pushing and the Commission has to act now!

on the Association of the German Wood Materials Industry (VHI)

The association of the German wood-based industry (VHI) represents the interests of the manufacturers of chip, fiber and OSB panels, natural fiber composite materials (WPC), plywood and interior doors made of wood and wood materials. The member companies stand for a responsible, efficient and sustainable handling of the raw material.

The German wood -based material industry generated sales of 5.3 billion euros in 2023 and is the market leader in Europe. It mainly processes sawdust and old wood to efficiently use the raw material wood and to extend the carbon stores.

The VHI is committed to ensuring that the wood -based industry industry receives the necessary support and framework conditions in order to be able to manufacture its products without a design.
