Climate protest in Berlin: Last generation smeared Chancellery with 'Olaf Lieb'.
As part of its climate protests, the group "Last Generation" smeared the Federal Chancellery in Berlin with orange color. The activists applied the slogan "Olaf lies" on a white wall of the building. Uniformed police officers and security forces in civilian steps and sometimes violently intervened against the activists. Some were recorded to determine their personal details later. A total of around 70 demonstrators gathered in front of the Chancellery, many with banners on which "Olaf lies" or "climate lie chancellor". The group criticizes Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) for claiming that government measures to protect against the climate catastrophe are sufficient. The activists call this a life -threatening lie. The group had already blocked streets in the past and smeared sights such as the Brandenburg Gate and the World Cycle Close on Alexanderplatz.
The action of the “last generation” may have an impact on the reputation of Berlin as a political center and shows that climate protests in the city have a great presence. Berlin is known for its politically committed population, which often participates in demonstrations and protest. Activists use the city as a platform to draw attention to its concerns and demand political changes.
It is important to note that violent actions such as smearing public buildings with color can not only lead to crimes, but also damage the reputation of the protest movement. It is therefore of great importance that activists use non -violent methods to communicate their demands and to make their concerns hear.
