The 'last generation' climate activist sentenced to four months in prison - second member of the group in Berlin without probation
A climate activist of the “Last Generation” group was sentenced to four months in prison by the Berlin-Tiergarten district court. The conviction was due to the triggering of a fire alarm in the Bundestag and the participation in several street blocks. The judge followed the public prosecutor's request.
The 31-year-old Kevin H. was guilty of resistance to enforcement officers, coercion, attempted coercion and abuse of emergency calls. His defense had pleaded for acquittal, but the court decided differently.
It is not the first time that a climate activist from the “Last Generation” group is convicted. At the end of April, the court had already sentenced a 24-year-old activist to a four-month prison sentence. The young woman had glued to the framework of a plant of the painter Lucas Cranach and also took part in street blocks.
The “last generation” activists are committed to combating climate change. Among other things, they protest through civil disobedience and actions of civil disobedience. Despite the convictions, they continue their actions to draw attention to the urgency of climate protection.
It remains to be seen whether the convictions will influence the group's activities or whether they will continue to fight for their beliefs. The discussion about climate change and the protection of the environment will certainly continue to be present in society, and the activists will continue to spread their message loudly and combative.
