AI literature in focus: Germany demands human identification seal!

As part of an intensive discussion about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in literature, Germany and other countries are currently addressing the question of mandatory labeling for AI-generated texts. RBB24 reports, that a novel with the “man-made” seal is to be published in Great Britain to illustrate this. There are similar considerations in Germany, which are primarily being pushed forward by Tobias Kiwitt, a representative of the Federal Association of Young Authors.

Mario Giordano, a renowned writer, has had disappointing results in a test using an AI chatbot for plot development. Although AI is already being used in areas such as children's books, cookbooks and guides, creativity in complex fiction has so far lagged behind expectations. The Honorary President of the European Writers Council, Nina George, said that existing AI systems are not capable of producing more sophisticated literature.

Identifying AI literature and concerns

The topic of labeling AI-generated literature is becoming increasingly important. The Authors Guild in the USA has already introduced a seal that distinguishes human-written works from automated texts. This follows the initiative of Sarah Hall, who sells her novel under the imprint “Human Written”. A similar seal is also required in Germany; Nina George supports the idea due to frequent deficiencies in AI-generated texts, which can lead to dangerous advice errors.

A particularly critical example is a mushroom guide that recommends unsafe identification methods. In addition, there are sometimes massive errors in AI-generated illustrations. For example, an oversized rat was used as an illustration. Giordano expresses concerns that a label could potentially create negative associations, similar to the historical “Made in Germany” label.
