A new chapter for Kevin Magnussen: The Danish racing star, which has previously been driven for the US team Haas in Formula 1, will be in long-haul sports from 2025. BMW announced that Magnussen will be part of the LMDH program and will compete both in the IMSA series and in the WEC, which means that it may be shown in the legendary 24-hour race of Le Mans. BMW M Motorsport Head Andreas Roos praised him as a great reinforcement: "He regularly showed his speed for over a decade at the highest level in Formula 1. The fact that he already completed a complete season with a sports car prototype in 2021 is an additional advantage for us," says Roos. Magnussen stated that the change for him feels like a return home, since his father Jan Magnussen was already active in similarly prestigious races. Motorsport magazine added that Magnussen also remains open in the Formula 1 and may even be open in the future to participate in test drives.

The Dane, who not only looks back in the premier class, but also benefited from childhood encounters, which now opened the door to BMW, thought his decision well. "The competition in the IndyCar series is fantastic, but the changeover for my family to the USA was simply not practical," he said. He will continue to look back on his Formula 1 engagement, but is likely to remain strongly involved in the long-distance races.
