Cash benefit for children and adolescents: Systemic psychotherapy now performance of statutory health insurance

An important decision was made today by the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA), which will have significant effects for many Berlin families: the introduction of systemic psychotherapy as a cash benefit for children and adolescents. This is a big step in psychotherapeutic care and is expressly welcomed by the German Psychotherapist Association (DPTV).

Systemic therapy deals with the interactions between the members of a group, especially within a family, and aims to bring about changes in social relationships. It is important to emphasize that the evidence and the benefits of this form of therapy have been sufficiently demonstrated, which made the decision of the G-BA possible.

For Berlin families, this means that from mid -2024, systemic therapy can also be offered for children and adolescents in contract psychotherapy. It is expected that this will significantly expand psychotherapeutic care in Berlin's practices and clinics.

The DPTV, as the largest professional association for psychotherapists in Germany, will continue to work for the concerns of its members and represent their interests towards politics, institutions and authorities. This is particularly relevant because psychotherapeutic care in Berlin and other German cities is becoming more important and adequate support from the government is of great importance.

For Berlin citizens, it is also of interest to know that in addition to representing the interests of psychotherapists, the DPTV is also involved in the training and further education of psychotherapists. This is an important aspect, since the quality and number of available psychotherapists have a direct impact on psychotherapeutic care in Berlin.

In the following you will find an overview of relevant information on psychotherapeutic care in Berlin:

| Number of psychotherapists in Berlin | Assumption of costs for psychotherapeutic care |
| ————————————- | ——————————————— | over 2000 (as of 2021) | adopted by statutory health insurance companies |

It can be expected that the introduction of systemic psychotherapy for children and adolescents will further increase the demand for psychotherapeutic care in Berlin and thus will increase the importance of adequate support from the politics and health insurance companies in the coming years.
