As a citizen of Berlin, I follow the current developments in the federal capital with great interest. The Minister of Justice Buschmann gets under fire because his individual plan has considerable ambiguities in the federal budget. This causes resentment at the CDU/CSU parliamentary group and has led to an application to produce the truth of the budget and clarity in the individual plan. This step is welcomed by many citizens, especially lawyers and legal experts in Berlin, since adequate funding from the Ministry of Justice is of crucial importance for the rule of law. The judiciary is particularly important in Berlin, since the city acts as the seat of the Federal Constitutional Court and the Federal Court of Justice. The judicial independence and the functionality of the courts are fundamental to the rule of law. Therefore, the citizens of Berlin expect the Minister of Justice to take the criticism of the Federal Audit Office seriously and ensure financial clarity in his ministry.
