Youth research: talents from Berlin and Brandenburg in the grand finale!
On May 28, 2025, 17 young scientists from Berlin and Brandenburg in Hamburg took part in the final of the 60th federal competition "Jugend forscht". The event took place at the Helmut Schmidt University (HSU) of the University of the Bundeswehr Hamburg. A total of 167 talents presented 112 research projects that are awarded in different categories.
There is special attention to the innovative projects that the participants have developed. Djamila Ellinger (18) from the Einstein Gymnasium in Neuenhagen optimizes a dye solar cell, known as Grätzelle. This environmentally friendly alternative to conventional solar cells is self -made from electrolytes and dyes such as currant juice. Your goal: the improvement of the effectiveness and durability of the Grätzelzellen.
research projects and talents
Another remarkable project comes from Esther Marie Schüler (17) from the Carl-Friedrich-Gauß-Gymnasium in Frankfurt (Oder). It examines dragonfly populations at the Scharmützelsee and Silbersee and analyzes their biodiversity and population density in connection with water quality and biodiversity. She compares her mapping data with official surveys of the country.
In addition, numerous other talents from both federal states take part in the competition: Loreley Paul (geo- and spatial sciences), Milena Reissmann and Lisa Matthäus (Mathematics/Computer Science), Ben Köhler and Oleg Smoli (technology), as well as Vinzent Schultze (Physics) from Brandenburg. From Berlin, Siddhartha Kolla, Maja Vandam and Eero Luig (Biology), Noah Baiersdorf (Chemistry), Tom Smee (Mathematics/Computer Science), Milena Fehlinger and Robin Schulze-Tammena (Physics), Finn Schwarz (technology) and David Rutkevich (Interdisciplinary Project)
look back to 2024
In 2024, particularly outstanding projects were awarded at the 59th Federal Final in Heilbronn. Anna Maria Weiß (geo- and spatial sciences), Anthony Eliot Striker and Tina Thao-Nhi Schatz (biology) won the federal competition. Other participants from different specialist areas were also honored for their innovative ideas and approaches, such as Finn Rudolph (President of the Federal President) and Maja Leber (Prize of the Federal Chancellor).
The “Jugend Forscht” competitions offer young talents a platform to present their research and gain valuable experiences in the field of science. The Jugend research foundation e. V. pursues the goal of promoting MINT formation in Germany and arousing enthusiasm for science. Further information on current projects and results are available on the official website: www.jugend-forscht.de .
With an exciting competition, interesting projects and the commitment of young scientists, “Jugend research” remains an important event that focuses on innovations and creative solutions for the challenges of the future.
