Israel-Hass-Demo escalated: Several injuries in Schöneberger street fights

in Berlin: Controversy demonstration leads to conflicts

Last weekend there was an incident in Berlin in the Schöneberg district that heated the minds. A demonstration that was originally under the motto "Stop the Gaza Genocide" got out of control and led to several injuries.

argument about anti-Israel slogan

The demo train started in Steglitz and pulled across the Schlosstraße towards Innsbrucker Platz in Schöneberg. The police appreciated the number of participants to around 600 people. When the officials tried to dissolve the demonstration, bottle throws came to the police. The slogan "From the River to the Sea", which propagates Israel's extinction, was particularly worrying.

injured and arrest

In the disputes, eight demonstrators were injured, five of whom had to be taken to the hospital. Some showed circulatory problems and minor injuries. A seriously injured person even had to be removed with a rescue helicopter. The exact number of arrests and injured police officers is not yet known.

Reaction of the authorities

In order to calm down the situation, the main street between Martin-Luther and Dominicusstraße was closed to traffic. The emergency services condemned the violence and tried to control the situation. It is alarming when demonstrations begin peacefully, but then lead to conflicts and injuries.

It is important that protests in Germany go peacefully and respectfully without violence and hatred. The protection of freedom of expression is out of the question, but respect against the law of others and before the law should always be preserved.
