Illegal car racing in Spandau: Raser are flashed and go to policewoman

In Berlin-Spandau, three young men delivered a forbidden car race on Monday evening. The police initially observed a 19-year-old in a BMW of a car sharing company. The young man met with a 17-year-old Opel driver in a parking lot on Grünhofer Weg. The two drivers then delivered an illegal street race on the Brunsbütteler Damm towards Nennhauser Damm. Both were traveling too quickly.

At the intersection of Brunsbütteler Damm/corner Nennhauser Damm, an 18-year-old Kia driver joined the race and also participated in it. The speeders only stopped after the radar of a speed camera vehicle triggered on the Brunsbütteler Damm. The eight inmates of the three cars got out, briefly discussed and then went closed and purposefully towards the radar vehicle. A policewoman was sitting in the car at that time.

Fortunately, the emergency services were able to stop and control the group before reaching the vehicle. The 17-year-old stated that he is currently taking driving hours and therefore does not have a valid driver's license. In addition, he had used their Opel without the consent of his mother. Since he had no valid ID documents with him, he was temporarily taken into police custody and released after a review.

The driver's licenses of the 18- and 19-year-old drivers as well as the Opel and the Kia were confiscated. The car sharing company's vehicle remained on site. The two speeders now have to answer for their illegal street race and other traffic violations. Such illegal car races are not only a significant danger to the participants themselves, but also for other road users and are therefore punishable. The Berlin police are consistently against these illegal races to ensure traffic safety.
