Flood in Orenburg: Ural River via a critical brand
The flood situation in Russia in the southern part of the Ural Mountains is further exacerbated, especially in the city of Orenburg. The Ural River reached a level of 9.78 meters on Wednesday morning, which is about half a meter above the critical brand. The city of Orenburg reported several flooded districts. Experts predict that the water level will increase by another 30 to 70 centimeters.
in Orenburg there were a total of 12,800 houses and 14,900 garden plots under water, which forced more than 7000 people to leave their houses. The substation in some villages had to be switched off due to the water masses, which led to a power failure. Furthermore, courts had to hire the operation, while museums began to bring their works of art to safety.
The flood also affected neighboring regions such as the Kurgan area in southwestern Siberia, where large areas were flooded and residents had to be evacuated with rescue boats. The population shows displeasure with the slow help of the authorities, which led to the support of President Vladimir Putin.
The catastrophic location is caused by the massive snow and ice melt in the Ural Mountains and by continuing precipitation. The Kremlin government reacted to the flood by sending government members into the affected areas. However, critics complain that too little has been done to prepare for spring floods for years. Julia Nawalnaja, a Putin critic and widow of the late Kreml opponent Alexej Nawalny, criticized the government for her lack of preparation for natural disasters.
The flood is not only triggered by the Ural River, but also by swelling of other rivers in the region around 1200 kilometers southeast of Moscow. The most serious floods occurred at the city of Orsk, where dams broke. It is expected that the water level in the region is slowly declining. Kazakhstan also reported floods in adjacent areas, with 96,000 people being temporarily evacuated.
