Historical column colonnades of the museum island shine in new splendor!
Museumsinsel, Berlin-Mitte, Deutschland - The historical column colonnades on the Museum Island in Berlin-Mitte shine again! After extensive restoration work, the impressive columns are completely accessible to visitors and offer a new, breathtaking view of the museum island and the James Simon Park. Since May 2021, this cultural jewel has been worked on the north side, with a robust steel structure and a weather protection roof being built to protect the building during the work.
The origins of the column passage go back to 1853 when it was built by Friedrich August Stüler's designs. The recent renovation work, which is in line with a comprehensive master plan, included the dismantling of modern additions added in 1911 to restore the colonnades in their original condition from 1878. A real architectural masterpiece now sees the light of the world again, such as www.berliner-zeitung.de reported.
