Help for Afghanistan: Federal Government required to continue the federal reception program

on the third anniversary of the takeover of the Taliban in Afghanistan on August 15: / Afghanistan! Save the federal recording program Afghanistan!

We must not forget Afghanistan! Three years after the Taliban's takeover, the situation in the country is still catastrophic. Girls and women whose basic rights are massively restricted are particularly affected. Girls are no longer allowed to go to school from the 7th grade, women have neither the right to work nor study or leave the house alone. Millions of children suffer from hunger, exploitation and a lack of education. This humanitarian crisis is still worsened by climate change and the increasing natural disasters, such as the devastating flood disaster in May 2014.

In view of this dramatic situation, it is of great importance that we support both short -term humanitarian aid as well as long -term development measures and the development of civil society in Afghanistan. Germany also has the obligation to accept endangered people from Afghanistan. For this reason, the child rights organization Terre des Hommes calls on the Federal Government to continue the federal reception program for Afghanistan (BAP).

"Women and girls in particular are exposed to massive human rights violations in Afghanistan. Girls are not allowed to go to school, which represents a clear violation of their rights and significantly affects their future prospects. Germany has the responsibility to accept more endangered people from Afghanistan," explains Joshua Hofert, board spokesman for Terre des Hommes.

According to the coalition agreement, the federal recording program is to be continued until the end of the current legislative period in September 2025. However, the draft budget for 2024 provides for financial cuts that would mean the end of the program. That is why Terre des Hommes and other organizations started an appeal for the continuation of the federal recording program in July.

background:

The federal recording program is aimed at Afghan who have been committed to human rights, women's rights, democracy and the rule of law in Afghanistan or are pursued because of their gender, their gender identity, sexual orientation or religion. According to the admission order, up to 1,000 endangered persons and their relatives should receive an admission of admission during the current legislative period. Until the end of the legislative period, this would be up to 36,000 people. So far, however, only 540 people have actually entered (as of July 12, 2024).

It is our duty to help people in Afghanistan and not to forget them. The Federal Government must continue to support the federal recording program in order to protect endangered Afghan and enable them to have a safe future. Together we can make a difference!
