Violent storm moves across Berlin-S-Bahn derails after a collision with ast

On Monday evening, Berlin was affected by a violent storm, which only briefly, but all the more violent across the city. In addition to heavy rain, a strong wind also swept through the capital. However, this storm was too much for some trees.

In the entire city area, numerous trees and branches broke off among the strong hurricane gusts and plunged to the ground. The effects of the storm were clearly visible, especially in the Volkspark Friedrichshain. Whole trees were partially uprooted there.

So far it is not known whether people have been harmed by the storm. However, the fire brigade received around 200 emergency calls. The storm also led to disorders in S-Bahn traffic. Between the Prenzlauer Allee and Schönhauser Allee stations, an S-Bahn derailed after driving against a branch. Due to the accident site, there were interruptions on several S-Bahn routes. The connection of the S2 between Blankenburg and Gesundbrunnen/Nordbahnhof, the S5 between Hoppegarten and Fredersdorf as well as the lines S41, S42 and S8 between Pankow/Gesundbrunnen and Greifswalder Straße were impaired. On the routes of the S9 and S45, nothing went between Adlershof and Altglienicke. The S3 only ran every 20 minutes and the S85.

There were also further incidents on Pankstrasse in Wedding. There trees fell in the park, with a tree fell on a Ford. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed. A large tree was overturned in Thurneysserstrasse and damaged two vehicles. In Franklinstrasse, a tree fell on a bus and a bus stop. Nothing is known about possible injuries.

In the zoo, numerous trees were also uprooted by the storm. The fire brigade is now working to gradually remove the damage.
