Pets as a lucky and health maker: New study reveals the positive influence of dogs and cats on well-being
New study shows that pets improve happiness and health of people
pets have a positive effect on the well -being and health of people, as a new study by Uelzener Insurance shows. The examination, which asked more than 1,100 dog and cat owners in Germany, proves that four-legged friends help their owners to deal with loneliness and to forget stressful concerns.
A reason for the positive effects lies in the release of the happiness hormone oxytocin. This hormone, which is also released in the mother-child relationship, is released when dealing with pets. A look at a dog or stroking over the head of a cat can lead to an oxytocin kick.
It is therefore not surprising that 98 percent of dog and cat owners in Germany believe that pets make pets happy. In addition, 93 percent are convinced of the health advantages. Because daily playing and walking with the four-legged "personal trainer" keeps the body in motion and the cardiovascular system fit.
pets not only serve as a lucky charm, but also as a social door opener and emotional support. Dog owners quickly tie contacts with a walk because dogs act as a sympathizer and door opener. Cat owners also benefit from the shared passion and find mild interlocutors with similar interests.
The survey also showed that pets offer an important distraction of worries in difficult times. Nine out of ten survey participants stated that their pets support them in difficult times and help them find an emotional balance.
The study thus underlines the high importance of pets in the life of its owners. For 62 percent of the respondents, pets are very important, while they are indispensable for a further 32 percent.
