Mobile network comparison 2024: Telekom leads, but where is the expansion?
The latest results of the network tests show that the large mobile phone providers in Germany, namely Telekom, Vodafone and Telefónica (O2), offer a predominantly good network, but continue to complain about network failures. According to a report on Berlin Live there are still significant supply gaps in rural areas and on certain train routes, which are particularly noticeable compared to large cities. While the networks in urban regions are mostly stable, failures in the country are still a widespread problem, where, according to current tests of "Connect" and "chip", one percent of the area of Germany still has no LTE or 5G coverage.

In terms of network quality, Telekom leads with a grade of 1.2 according to "chip" and 967 points from the "Connect" test. Vodafone follows the last place in the test with 1.7 and 895 points with 1.7 and 895 points. The differences in the internet speed are particularly remarkable: Telekom reaches 100 megabits per second in about 84 percent of the downloads, while Vodafone is only 72 and Telefónica 58 percent ago. The fact that the network expansion progresses is also shown in the improvements in 5G expansion, in which Telekom has clear advantages, followed by Vodafone and O2.
In the latest network expansion review, it becomes clear that the differences between city and the country are still large. In large cities, the speed in the Telekom network is more than twice as high than in rural areas. According to Handyhase , all major mobile phone providers have now switched to 5G, but there is still a lot to do to improve network coverage. In particular along railway lines, many connections are reported, and the new network operator 1 & 1, which started in December 2023, will also be relevant in the next few years, but it remains to be seen how the situation will develop.
