Security concepts for events required: Green faction wants to avoid violence and abuse of power
Shortly before the three sold-out Rammstein concerts in Berlin, the Green Group in the House of Representatives calls for mandatory security concepts for all events with more than 5000 visitors. The aim of this measure is to ensure effective protection of violence for women and marginalized groups. Bahar Haghanipour, Vice President of the House of Representatives and spokeswoman for women's policy and equality of the parliamentary group, emphasized at a press conference on Thursday that women and marginalized groups have to be better protected from violence.
The allegations against Rammstein singer Till Lindemann are not an isolated case, says Haghanipour. Where dependency relationships, status and power play a role, power is often exploited. Politics should not look away here, but must create short, medium and long-term measures for effective violence protection. The Green Group calls for a fundamental change in culture in the event industry.
Several women made allegations against Till Lindemann. According to them, young women were selected during concerts and asked if they wanted to come to the aftershow party.
In response to these allegations, the Green Group has drawn up a parliamentary initiative with various suggestions. Among other things, this includes the obligation for operators of large event sites to establish security concepts. In addition, a model clause for rental contracts of smaller cultural event rooms is to be developed in order to oblige organizers to introduce security concepts with awareness and help structures.
The Greens Group also pleads for a catalog of measures for discrimination-sensitive structures in concert and event operations. The theater industry and its catalog of measures can serve as a model. This was created in 2021 after cases of abuse of power became known to Berlin's Sprechtheater stages. In addition, the Greens are calling for the German Cultural Council to support the development of a code of conduct. Furthermore, it should be checked whether the advice and trust spells for those affected can be expanded by sexual violence in Berlin and whether public grants in measures for better violence protection can be linked.
The lawyer and author Asha Hedayati supports the push of the Greens. It represents women who are affected by violence. Hedayati emphasized that this is not just a band or a music genre, but a structural problem.
In the past few weeks, Hedayati has often been contacted by those affected, who do not want to express themselves publicly, as they are afraid that they will be debt or prejudices. Hedayati called for an end to silence both on the part of the affected and the environment of the perpetrators and the media. She emphasized that the big silence leads to stabilization of misogyner structures.
Although the implementation of the Istanbul Convention to combat violence against women in Berlin has already progressed than elsewhere, there is still a lot of room for improvement, especially with regard to preventive work. Here, a change of perspective is necessary that does not deport responsibility to women.
For the Rammstein concerts taking place on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday, Awareness teams will be on site and aftershow parties should not take place. MP Haghanipour gives these measures, but at the same time emphasizes that the Senate should not limit itself to them. Further measures are necessary to ensure comprehensive violence protection.
