Large deployment in Berlin and Brandenburg: Running big cat spotted
in Berlin and Brandenburg, an apparently runaway cat is currently causing excitement. According to the "Bild" newspaper, the animal may have been spotted in the border area between the two federal states on Thursday evening. The Berlin police then immediately searched for the animal with a large contingent. The Brandenburg police also took part in the search that had already started in the afternoon.
In the evening, a possible sighting was reported in the Zehlendorf district of Berlin. The police took this clue seriously and moved out with great commitment, but found no trace of the big cat. The entrance to a forest area in Zehlendorf was also searched, but without success.
The search for the animal continued at night. A total of 220 police officers were deployed, including veterinarian and a city hunter. All possible information was checked and areas were briefly blocked off. A night vision drone should also be used to track down the animal. The police emphasized that it would stay in use until the animal is found.
Already last night there was an emergency call from Kleinmachnow in which the animal was spotted. Since then, the emergency services have been looking intensively for the runaway cat. According to the police, it may be a lioness. The search first concentrated on the Teltow, Kleinmachnow and Stahnsdorf area. The population was warned of leaving their houses and the search should continue at night.
videos that had been received by the police allegedly showed how the big cat had chased and hunted a wild boar. However, neither the predator nor a dead wild boar was discovered.
The origin of the big cat is previously unknown. Zoos, zoo, circuses and animal welfare facilities in the area were checked, but no missing Löwin was reported. The State Office for Environment Brandenburg announced that 23 lions are kept by six registered animal owners in the state.
The inhabitants of the municipality of Kleinmachnow were asked to be careful, but there is no direct danger. The mayor emphasized that everything would be done to numb the big cat if necessary without killing it. For a veterinary doctor, however, there is still doubts as to whether it is actually a lioness.
The search for the runaway cat will continue in the next few days until the animal is found. The population is asked to be careful and report possible sightings of the police.
