Large deployment against grandchildren: 20 arrests and € 4.8 million prevented!

A large-scale use against the unscrupulous "grandchildren trick" fraudsters has taken place in Germany and other European countries. In a coordinated campaign, led by the State Criminal Police Office Berlin (LKA) and in cooperation with the Berlin public prosecutor, 20 suspects were arrested, including callers and pickers, who are between 18 and 67 years old. These fraudsters in particular contacted the elderly and spent the phone on the phone as relatives to yield this money. In the past few days, a total of 391 grandchildren and alleged damage of over 4.8 million euros have been prevented, as was confirmed by the Berlin police and the public prosecutor who reported RBB24.

In Poland, an important call center network was smashed during use, which served as a backbone for these fraud stitches. Investigators from eight European countries, including Luxembourg, Austria and Switzerland, were involved in a so -called "Action Week", which took place from November 25th to December 6th. During this time, up to 1,000 emergency services were active every day. Access to several call centers in a single -family house and a hotel room in Poland was particularly impressive, where extensive evidence such as mobile phones, laptops and cash could be ensured, since berlin.de reported.

international cooperation against fraud

The fraudsters put their victims under pressure by making shock calls and pretending to be in need. The investigation is currently ongoing to identify other perpetrators and reduce the damage caused. The close international cooperation already shows its effect because some of the arrested come from well -organized gangs that are active in several countries. Those affected should be aware of the danger and take measures to protect themselves, such as proposing an internal code word or checking calls, as recommended by the European Union to prevent further victims. The success of these large -scale measures could help to prevent the fraud stitches in the future and to bring the responsible perpetrators to court.
