Berlin celebrates Thielemann at “State Opera for All”
In the heart of Berlin, numerous classic fans gathered to experience a musical highlight at the open-air event “State Opera for everyone”. The sounds of the state chapel and the management of the conductor Christian Thielemann were celebrated under a bright blue sky.
Thielemann, the new baton
As a designated general music director of the State Opera, Thielemann was celebrated for the first time at this public event. The program included the impressive alpine information by Richard Strauss and the thrilling Tannhäuser Ouerture by Richard Wagner.
The 65-year-old Thielemann succeeds Daniel Barenboim, who had to give up his position due to health reasons. Thielemann will officially take over the office of General Music Director for the 2024/2025 season.
magical moments despite rainy weather
On the previous day of the event, despite the rainy weather, fewer opera throttles came to Bebelplatz. There the moving opera “Melancholy of Resistance” was transferred from the Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden. Despite the adverse circumstances, only a few hundred opera guests expressed their enthusiasm for the solo occupation around Countertenor Philippe Jaroussky and the state chapel under the direction of the French conductor Marie Jacquot.
The impressive cinematic opera “Melancholy of Resistance” by the French composer Marc-André Dalbavie was premiered as spectacular commissioned work at the State Opera. Based on a novel by László Krasznahorkai, the action tells of a society that is on the way to authoritarian structures. In his staging, director Marton manages to combine film and music theater and to offer the audience an unforgettable performance.
