Gröner Group: Why Christoph Gröner has been building nothing in Berlin for two years

Christoph Gröner, a prominent building owner in Germany, has not built anything in Berlin for two years, even though his business is located there. As a former large donor of the Berlin CDU, he turned to a Future Forum of the SPD Group and commented on the current situation. Gröner stated that it is not the construction costs, but the increasing property prices make living priceless.

With regard to Berlin, Gröner explained how the development of the property prices has increased dramatically in recent years. The costs for the construction amount to 20 to 25 euros per square meter of rent in the new building, with the majority of the property prices no longer apply. Despite increasing construction costs, Gröner does not see the main problem in it, but in the rapid price increase of building plots.

GRÖNER continued that the purchasing power in Berlin was no longer sufficient to cover rising rental prices. Therefore, his company had to stop investing in Berlin because the new building no longer economically profitable. Despite the potential in Berlin, Gröner found the property prices to be intolerable.

As a solution for the lack of housing, Graner proposed to use existing resources more efficiently. He emphasized the importance of a quick creation of building law and suggested innovative ideas such as the covering of highways to create additional living space. Gröner criticized the political blockade in creating new living space and emphasized the need to avoid ideological discussions to develop a master plan for creating more living space in Berlin.
