Flu wave in Berlin: Infections rise rapidly to 281 cases!
A violent flu wave rolls up in Berlin! According to the current weekly report of the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lageso), the reported infections in the capital rose suddenly. The authority currently has 281 cases, which almost corresponds to a doubling compared to previous years. Since the beginning of the season in October 2024, 1168 cases have been registered and the figures are well above the average of 2015 to 2019, ahead of Corona pandemic. Despite the increase at the turn of the year, an analysis revealed that the activity of acute respiratory diseases (are) at around 6300 per 100,000 inhabitants revealed as [rki] (https://www.rki.de/de/content/entinel/-gripweb/wochen report_aktuell.html at around 6300 per 100,000 inhabitants for the calendar week 51/2024) reported.
The current flu wave also brings the incidence of flu -like diseases (ILI). In the first calendar week 2025, the Ili incidence fell to around 1200 per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 1500 in the previous week. These values are roughly at the level of time before pandemic. Interestingly, the increase in clinic admissions due to respiratory infections shows that more and more patients with influenza and RSV diagnoses are being determined, which underlines the urgency of the flu vaccination, such as Berliner Zeitung. A decline in the flu cases has been observed on the holidays, but the number of visits to the doctor is now increasing again due to acute respiratory infections, which indicates a worrying trend.
