Goodyear closes tire plant in Fürstenwalde: 750 employees affected

according to a report by www.maz-online.de , Potsdam. The tire manufacturer Goodyear announces hard cuts in German production. As the company announced on Thursday, the tire plant in Fürstenwalde in the Oder-Spree district is to be gradually closed by the end of 2027. According to the company, 750 employees would be affected. The work in Fulda in Hesse is also in front of that. The work should close by September 2025. 1050 people work there.

Goodyear is one of the most important employers in Fürstenwalde. Tires have been produced there since the late 1930s. In GDR times, the VEB tire combination Fürstenwalde became a monopolist and produced tires for Trabant and Wartburg. After the turn, the Pneumant tire brand managed to jump into the market economy. Now the end of the tire production in Fürstenwalde threatens. The employees had still hoped to produce tires for Tesla in Grünheide. Brandenburg's Minister of Economic Affairs Jörg Steinbach (SPD) called the decision of Goodyear "shocking" and announced that it would contact the management to explore opportunities to maintain industrial workplaces.

Rightly 750 jobs are reduced according to the Goodyear. The on -site works council assumes 700 jobs. According to the Goodyear, the work in Fürstenwalde has 930 employees. The so -called mixing operation (mixing), in which rubber compounds are produced, should be preserved.

The decision to reduce overcapacity enables goodyear to improve the cost structure and to secure competitiveness and profitability in the long term. The planned closure of the work in Fulda had no effect on the Fulda tire brand, which Goodyear wanted to continue. Fulda tires are made in various works and are still available.

The company is aware of the responsibility towards employees and their families to "find fair solutions and to support all those affected". In Fulda, around 90 employees from the areas of sale and administration could be offered a new job either in the Goodyear plant in Hanau or in the home office. According to its own statements, Goodyear is one of the largest tire companies in the world with around 74,000 employees in 57 works in 23 countries. In Germany, Goodyear has around 5000 employees.
