Violence in the event of memorial demonstration: Police and participants come together!

At the annual memorial station for the shot communist leaders Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, there were violent clashes between demonstrators and the police. The rally started at the Frankfurter Tor in Friedrichshain and was to lead to the memorial of the socialists in Friedrichsfelde. As BZ Berlin , propalestinic groups also mixed up to the participants, which led to violent collapse. As early as 11:30 a.m., the police estimated the number of participants at around 3,000 after 10,000 were originally registered.

The police were exposed to violent attacks when some participants lit Bengalos and threw bottles and flag rods on the emergency services. According to a police spokesman, pepper spray and batons were used to de -escalate the situation. Accordingly, parts of the train also chanted banned slogans in connection with the Middle East conflict, which further fueled the tensions. It was also reported that a demonstrator was briefly passed out and had to be picked up by an ambulance, as the police communicated on X. These dramatic incidents show how quickly the memorial march can get out of control, such as reported.

The memory of Luxembourg and Liebknecht, which were murdered by Freikorps in 1919, is increasingly overshadowed by political arguments. The demonstration call was directed not only against militarism, but also against arms deliveries to Ukraine and Israel. The sting of violence and political tensions seems particularly noticeable this year, which questions the nature of this tradition.
