Cooperative housing projects: federal states promote citizens with loans and advantages
The demand for affordable living space, especially in cities, is high. An alternative to expensive rents are cooperative apartments, the rents of which are usually below the market level. The federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Berlin and Bremen support the new building, conversion and modernization of cooperative living space. In addition, other federal states, such as Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Saxony, also offer low-interest loans for subsidized living space.
For example, the state of North Rhine -Westphalia supports the construction of subsidized living space with a basic loan of up to 3,490 euros per square meter. In addition, there is an additional loan of 60,000 euros per residential unit for newly founded, residents -supported housing cooperatives. Investment bank Berlin offers an interest -free loan of up to 3,500 euros per square meter of living space for the purchase of buildings through existing housing associations.
