Approval for community cannabis cultivation in Marzahn-Hellersdorf: Exemplary procedure of the Green Leaf Society

Supporting the recent consumption cannabis law (KCang) was granted the first approval for the community of self-growing of cannabis. This permission was granted to the Green Leaf Society e.V. cultivation association by the district office Marzahn-Hellersdorf in Berlin after submitting a corresponding application on July 25th.

extensive preparation and careful concepts

The application was intensively checked by the district office and corresponded to all statutory approval criteria. Particular attention was paid to the protection of minors, the security, the structures without commercial intentions and the clarification of health and search risks. The health and youth protection concept of the application comprised around 40 pages alone and testified to a thorough and well thought-out preparation.

The health city council Gordon Lemm (SPD) emphasized that the approval does not go down in a trivialization of cannabis consumption. He pointed out that cannabis can still be classified as a drug and that health risks, especially for children and adolescents. Nevertheless, he praised the proposal of the Green Leaf Society for his structured considerations for the willingness to take responsibility and the early detection of problematic consumer behavior.

further applications remain to be waiting for

So far, this is the only application for the common self-growing of cannabis, which has been received in the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district office. As long as there is no uniform regulation at the state level, the districts are responsible for the applications from their own area. The Marzahn-Hellersdorf district office has thus fulfilled its administrative mandate in accordance with the legal requirements.

It remains to be seen whether other cultivation associations will submit similar applications and whether they will be developed as extensively and structured. The hope is that a responsible handling of cannabis will continue to be promoted in society to protect young people and to contain criminal activities in connection with drug use.
