JVA Tegel: Camps receive months of insulation in special detention rooms

In the prisoner in the JVA Tegel, prisoners are sometimes isolated for months in special detention rooms. The average accommodation duration in these rooms has been 125 days since January 2023, as the Senate Department for Justice announced at the request of RBB | 24. According to a visitor log of the enforcement advisory board, experts assess once a month whether the prisoners in the particularly secured rooms continue to be a risk of security or whether they can be laid to regular cells. The specially secured detention rooms in Section II of the JVA Tegel differ in their equipment from the normal cells. They are used for prisoners who, due to violent acts in the prison in the prison, pose a threat to enforcement officers or fellow prisoners, as the Senate Administration for Justice explains. In the detention rooms, the detained institutions must wear and must not own personal objects. Communication with other people is limited and the prisoners are only allowed to leave the rooms for an hour a day.
