Memorial celebration for City founder Fritz Puppel - Musikwelt is saying goodbye

Exactly two months after Fritz Puppel's death took place in Berlin, in which about 250 people came together to commemorate the late city founder. Among other things, the remaining members of City, musicians of the Puhdys, Dirk Zöllner and the band Silly were present. Dieter "Machine" Birr, front man of the Puhdys and close friend of Puppel, was visibly moved.

Fritz Puppel, guitarist and composer at City, died at the age of 79 on February 10th. He founded the band in 1972 together with Klaus Selmke, who died four years ago. Despite changing occupations, Puppel was always an integral part of City. The band said goodbye to the stage at the end of 2022 after five decades.

In his speech, the city singer Toni Krahl praised Puppel as the "captain of the ship City" at the commemoration. He recalled how Puppel the band kept "over water" in difficult times. The event took place in a solemn setting and enabled those present to say goodbye and mourn together.
