Remembrance of the Tsunami victims: care of the honor in danger!
On December 26, 2024, the Evangelical Parish of Alt-Tempelhof commemorates the 47 people from Berlin and Brandenburg, who died 20 years ago in the devastating tsunami disaster in Thailand. On this memorable date there will be a memorial service in the village church at Parkstraße 3, 12103 Berlin at 3 p.m. The municipality invites relatives and those affected to commemorate their deceased and thus offer a space of mourning and memory, while the wounds of the past tragedy do not close. According to bz-berlin.de , however, the memorial in the neighboring cemetery is in poor condition and urgently needs care.
Memorial to be in need of care
The memorial stele, which was once built on the initiative of relatives and the late disaster pastor Jörg Kluge, is in a neglected state. So far, it is unclear who is responsible for maintenance, since the community only maintains the "right graves". Signs of decay are omnipresent, and a four-digit amount would be necessary to secure the memorial location, as Findagrave.com The hope of the church representatives is that those affected are willing to take care of the preservation of this venerable place in the future.
