Memory of the cenotaph: anniversary of the Second World War in Berlin
In the middle of the historic backdrop of the People's Park Friedrichshain in Berlin, a moving commemoration event took place on September 1, 2023. The district office of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg and the district council organized a solemn ceremony together with the message of the Republic of Poland in Berlin to commemorate the beginning of the Second World War.
The silent commemoration was aimed at the fallen Polish soldiers as well as the victims from the ranks of the Allied forces and Polish and German resistance. In the middle of those present were high-ranking personalities such as Werner Heck, head of the district council, and Oliver Nöll, deputy district mayor of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. Likewise, Łukasz żygadło from the message of the Republic of Poland participated in the ceremony to honor the significant historical meaning of this day.
The event started at 11 a.m. at the memorial of the Polish soldiers and German resistance fighters in the Volkspark Friedrichshain. In this symbolic place, representatives of both nations combined to commemorate together and to set a sign of the culture of remembrance.
The meaning of this commemorative day impressively emphasized the meaning of this commemoration by the dignified atmosphere and the meaningful words of the speakers. The close connection between Germany and Poland as well as the commitment to peace and reconciliation were the focus of the event.
The silence of the monument of the Polish soldier and German anti -fascists in the Volkspark Friedrichshain once again illustrated the importance of not forgetting the past and learning from it. It was an emotional and touching gathering that contributed to keeping the memory of the victims of the Second World War alive and appreciating the commitment to peaceful coexistence.
