Frohnauer SC: Girls and boys show team spirit without borders in football!

On May 26, 2025, sports city councilor Harald Muschner (CDU) visited the training of Frohnauer SC in Berlin-Reinickendorf on May 23. The focus was on the mixed team of girls and boys, which convinced by his commitment, team spirit and joy of playing. Muschner wanted to get an idea of the performance of the young players.

The team not only achieved success locally, but also nationally. Among other things, they won the street football tournament of the Brandenburg sports youth. The visit to the sports city council underlines the importance of popular sports and the need to promote young talents together at an early stage.

team spirit and respect in the game

In the training, it was shown that girls and boys can play football successfully and without prejudice. Muschner emphasized the mutual respect between the players and the enthusiasm for sport. The cohesion in the team was particularly emphasized because girls and boys learn and grow as a team.

A special thanks also went to the coaching team, consisting of Armin Hartmann and Patrick Lobback. They create an open and motivating environment for all children, regardless of gender. Frohnauer SC is thus mentioned as an example of a lived variety on the field.

equality in football

While football flourishes on the width, there are still challenges in competitive sports and in the structures. In football, especially in the youth field, the equality of opportunities between boys and girls has not yet been reached. Children aged 9 to 11, like the players from the DJK Südwest and Grün-Weiß Brauweiler, show joy and competitive skills, but are aware of the disadvantages in many clubs.

The demand for equality is urgently necessary, according to trainer Jörg Heinold. "Girls should play in the same place as boys," he emphasizes and demands structural -improving measures for girls' football. While initiatives such as equaletics founded by former students of the German Sport University Cologne, they try to promote sensitization to gender equality in sport, they also observe regression in the development of equal opportunities.

  • g youth (U 6/U 7)
    • style of play: two-against-two or three-against-three
    • A maximum of two substitutes per team
    • still without goalkeeper
  • f youth (U 8/U 9)
    • style of play: three-against-three or five-against-five
    • Team size depending on the development level of children
  • e-youth (U 10/U 11)
    • style of play: five against five or seven-against-seven

The success of Equalytics is not only in the creation of an equivalent space for all genders. The organization aims to create a discriminatory space in sports in which the opportunity for girls to play football becomes a matter of course. Despite the existing challenges, visiting Muschner at Frohnauer SC is a bright spot and a sign that children's sports in Berlin is an important step in the right direction.
