Friedrichstraße: The blocking has little influence on Berlin's flow of traffic!
An analysis of the card manufacturer TomTom shows that the blocking of Friedrichstrasse in Berlin-Mitte had little effect on the flow of traffic in the surrounding roads. According to traffic expert Ralf-Peter Schäfer, it can be found that Friedrichstrasse is not decisive for car traffic. The average speeds of road users remained almost unchanged during and after the blocking.
Schäfer emphasizes that other factors, especially large construction sites, have a much greater impact on traffic. The examination, which takes GPS data into account over a period of twelve months, also showed that alternative routes are used and many drivers are avoiding the region. Interestingly, the protests by farmers and the last generation had only minor effects on traffic in Berlin, although the influence of the climate activists was somewhat more pronounced. Nevertheless, it should be noted that Berlin car traffic overall is a resilient over such protest.
