Presentation of the competition contributions for the redesign of the Lausitzer Platz

The Senate Department for Urban Development and Living in Berlin published a press release on April 18, 2024, in which the presentation of the competition contributions for the redesign of the Lausitzer Platz was announced. The square north of Skalitzer Straße is to be transformed into a place that invites you to both activities and relaxation and at the same time is prepared for the consequences of the climate crisis.

Since 2021, ideas have been collected in an extensive participation process and conflicts of use were discussed. A planning competition advertised across Europe has been running in two phases since September 6, 2023. In the first phase, conceptual solutions were developed that take into account the needs of residents, climate protection and biodiversity. Now, in the second phase, 13 competition work has been further refined.

The selected work will be presented on April 23, 2024 as part of a public exhibition. Visitors have the opportunity to examine the work and to express their opinion. On April 24, 2024, the jury from external experts and representatives of the public administration will decide on the result of the competition. The implementation of the construction work is planned for 2025 and is financed through the Berlin places.

The future design of the Lausitzer Platz is intended to improve the quality of stay and make a contribution to biodiversity and climate adaptation. The event for the presentation of the competitive contributions will take place on April 23, 2024 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Dragoner area, Mehringdamm 22, 10961, neighborhood room in the former horse stable, behind the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg tax office.

The citizens are invited to express their opinions and discussions about the planning. Admission to the event is free. However, it is asked not to take photo and film recordings, as this is not permitted as part of an ongoing competitive procedure.

Overall, the redesign of the Lausitzer Platz represents an exciting project that will positively influence both the local community and the environment. Citizens have the opportunity to actively participate in the planning and bring their ideas. It remains to be seen how the competition develops and which designs are ultimately implemented.
