Nach umfangreichen Analysen und Beteiligungsformaten wird am heutigen Donnerstag das Verkehrsberuhigungskonzept für den „Ostkreuz-Kiez“ vorgestellt. Ziel der Maßnahmen des Ergebniskonzepts ist die Erhöhung der Verkehrssicherheit für Fußgänger*innen und das Verhindern von Schleichverkehren durch die Wohnkieze. The traffic calming concept for the "Ostkreuz-Kiez" was presented to the public today after thorough analyzes and participation formats. The main goal of the concept is to increase road safety for pedestrians and to prevent sneaking through residential areas. The creation of pedestrians and school zones creates more space for foot traffic to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. The reduction of through traffic through opposite one -way street regulations and modal filter as well as the promotion of bicycle traffic with bicycle streets are further measures that are part of the implementation of the concept.

The residents of the Ostkreuz-Kiez were able to bring in their ideas in various participation formats in autumn 2023 and get to know the planned measures. The high consent of 94 percent in the online and suburb of participation as well as the numerous helpful comments from the participants have contributed to the adaptation of individual measures.

District City Councilor for Transport, Green Spaces, Order and Environment, Annika Gerold, emphasizes the importance of traffic calming for the quality of life in the Eastern Cross-Kiez. The measures not only contribute to quieter and safer roads, but also improve air quality, which leads to a healthier environment for everyone. The planning work was supported and implemented by the district government and all participants.

The traffic calming concept is implemented in three stages due to limited financial and personnel resources. First, the measures are carried out in the area between Frankfurter Allee and Boxhagener Straße, followed by the areas between Boxhagener Straße and Wühlischstraße and between Wühlischstraße and Revaler Straße.

The concept is based on the residents' application DS/0029/VI "Ostkreuz-Kiez for all", as well as the printed items DS/0299/VI "Procedure for the implementation of comprehensive traffic calming and dealing with the decision so-called Kiezblocks", as well as DS/0827/VI "District concept for nationwide traffic calming".
