Stumbling blocks in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg: Memory of the victims of the Holocaust

A moving sign of commemoration will be set in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg on October 16, 2024! Here, stumbling blocks are laid again, which give a dignified memory of a tragic period and the victims of the National Socialists. In the district, over 1,050 stumbling blocks are already laid, which are scattered all over the city and remind us of the cruel deeds of the Holocaust every day.

District Mayor Clara Herrmann sums it up: "With the more than 1,000 stumbling blocks in our district, we are reminiscent of the cruel deeds of the Holocaust every day in public space. The small stones in the streets are an important part of our memorial work. The currently strengthening anti -Semitism warns us to keep the memory of the Shoah present." A clarifying signal in times when we must not forget the past!

Details for laying

  • when? October 16, 2024, from 11.05 a.m.
  • where? Start in Mollstraße 31-32, 10249 Berlin

At 11.05 a.m., five stumbling blocks are set on Mollstraße 31-32 to remember the Blum family: Moses, Bertha Baisia, Alfred, Herbert and Margot. Moses Blum, born in Mościska in 1887, came to Berlin and operated a grocery store with his wife Bertha. Her children experienced the horrors of the expulsion - a story that shocked, and which makes the wrong thing that happened to the Jewish families.

At 11.50 a.m., Jessnerstrasse 10 is then reminded of Siegfried, Berta and Horst Nossen. This family, a tragic community of fate, also fell victim to an unjust system. Especially Horst, who wanted to build a life despite restrictions due to his premature birth, was punished for his love for "Aryan" and had to suffer in a prison before finally died.

Another shocking fate is that of Martha, Hildegard and Tana Mamlok. At 1:25 p.m. at Neuchâtel Strasse 1. Martha, born Peiser, tried to protect her family, but the machinations of National Socialism tore apart her family. Her daughter Eva, a brave fighter against oppression, was finally deported and died brutally in the Stutthof concentration camp.

and not to forget Hermann and Paula Pazer, which is considered at 2:05 p.m. in the Fraenkelufer 36 with stumbling blocks. They were victims of the inhumane conditions of the Warsaw Ghetto, while their son Josef was looking for a desperate way out to Palestine.

The laying of these stumbling blocks is encouraged by the district office to keep the reminders of the past alive. These memorial stones are not just a memory, they are an urgent call not to forget. The district council confirmed this in 2017 - the will to remember is strong!
