Silvio-Meier Prize 2024: Commitment to right-wing extremist violence

The district council and the district office of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg announce that this year the 9th Silvio-Meier Prize will be awarded and awarded. The price is named after Silvio Meier, a committed fighter for tolerance, freedom and political emancipation. He honors individuals, groups, initiatives or projects that are actively involved in social patronage, incapacity, discrimination as well as social and cultural exclusion in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district.

District Mayor Clara Herrmann emphasizes that the Silvio-Meier Prize sets a sign of tolerance, diversity and peaceful coexistence. The support of people, associations and initiatives that are non -violent against discrimination and racism is of crucial importance in the face of current social developments.

The BVV head Werner Heck explains that the price is a statement against racism, discrimination, exclusion and any form inheritable. The awarding of the award winners is scheduled to take place in June or early July and remind you of the Kirchenag organized by Silvio Meier and the Peace, Environmental and Human Rights Movement in East Berlin in June 1987. This political success was of great importance for Silvio Meier and the movement in the GDR.

Individual persons, groups, initiatives or projects that have campaigned against social patronage and discrimination or have shown outstanding civil courage against right-wing extremist and racially motivated violence can be nominated for the Silvio-Meier Prize. The application period ends on June 2, 2024.

Silvio Meier, who was stabbed in 1992 by neo -Nazis, is honored with the price as a brave advocate of freedom and democracy. The price should remind of its courageous attitude and set a clear sign against right -wing extremism, racism, exclusion and discrimination. It is intended to encourage himself to actively and non -violent for freedom and political emancipation for everyone, regardless of origin, religion, social position or sexual identity.
