Rescue for artists: Does that threaten Kreuzberg's studio Adalbertstraße 9?
Jubilee in Kreuberg? Or is the last large studio building on the brink? The rumor mill is bubbling in Adalbertstraße 9! This legendary address with its 4,000 square meters of studios and socially bound apartments could soon be a thing of the past. A cry for help from the association "Adalbert nine remains" shakes the district office this week: the rental agreement for the Iconian building was canceled! Now there is a hurry - the owner is planning to sell the complex to the state of Berlin, but only if everything goes very quickly.
The district mayor Clara Herrmann decidedly oppose the impending cultural repression. In a passionate speech, she unequivocally clarified: "Berlin must not braise his cultural scene! Our artists are the heart of our city, the lifestyle of Kreuzberg!" It vehemently demands that not only the cultural scene, but also the structures that help have to be protected. "There is no time to lose! Act, cultural senator and finance senator! Give the funds to buy the building!" Your message is clear and urgent: action is required!
The creative area in danger
But what does that mean specifically? A look at the numbers shows the extent of the threat: A study by the Federal Association of Fine Arts from 2023 reveals that incredible 87 percent of the approximately 10,000 visual artists in Berlin desperately search for a production location! If Adalbertstraße 9 falls away, the already tense situation will be further tightened.
The clock ticks and the situation is getting more and more difficult. Clara Herrmann is aware of the scope and mobilizes its strength for the urgent preservation - not only for the artists, but also for the collective cultural heritage of Berlin! A call to the rescue that is not allowed to leave an ear - Kreuberg must not lose this important place to create and develop creative expression!
