New meeting place for families: The playground on Solmsstrasse shines in new splendor

The residents of the Kreuzberger Bergmannkiezes achieve a good news: The playground at Solmsstraße 39 is reopened today after extensive renovation work. The redesign of the popular meeting point for families and children was made possible by the daycare and playground renovation program and realized with a budget of 530,000 euros. Construction started in November 2023 and was successfully completed this month.

The district councilor for traffic, green spaces, order and environment, Annika Gerold, emphasizes the importance of the project: "The redesign of the playground in Solmsstrasse contributes significantly to the upgrading of the living environment and offers improved play opportunities for children. In addition, it makes a contribution to the creation of a pleasant place of residence in the district."

The comprehensive redesign of the playground comprises the creation of a spacious play area with a wide range of offers, especially for children up to six years. The existing streetball court was revised and provided with a new covering to ensure a safe game. A nest swing, a climbing castle combination and a carousel are just a few of the new highlights that were installed at the request of the children.

The integration of a tree grove with picnic tables at the entrance to the playground, which invites you to linger and play, is particularly gratifying. Numerous benches and a wooden platform offer visitors additional residence options. Targeted tree plantings not only support the greening of the playground, but also improve the microclimate.

Particular attention was paid to the involvement of the local community: In May 2023, a participation event with the children's shop Fidicinis e.V. and the residents took place. Ideas and suggestions from the neighborhood were recorded here and integrated into the design of the playground.

Finally, it is pointed out that the planned planting can only be carried out in autumn due to the season. Small shrubs are supplemented and seven new trees are planted, including a field maple and six rock bulbs in the front area to the street.
