Istanbul Connection: Photo project shows lively city

The exhibition "Istanbul Connection", which was presented in February 2023 in the Kunstquartier Bethanien, can now be seen until April 7, 2024 in Alan Kadıköy, the modern art and cultural center in the Istanbul partner district of Kadıköy. Since 2012, the photocenter of the Gilberto Bosques Volkshochschule Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg has been conducting photo projects in Berlin and Istanbul together with the Kadıköy e.V. City Partnership Association and the Nazim Hikmet Kulturzentrum. Under the direction of Klaus W. Eisenlohr and Levent Karaoglu, the photographers visited various districts of Istanbul in the summer of 2022 and photographed craftsmen, artists and the lively city landscape.

The photographers senem aslan, Lars Bauer, Kostas Beis, Nilüfer Çetin, Christian Gröschel, Björn Hoffmann, Fevzi Kaygı, Deniz Kızılkanat, Christine Kurka, Yasemin Özbek and Tütem Turan have created impressive and dense photographs that have created the diverse opposites and facets of the city of Istanbul hold onto. The exhibition is a cooperation between the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg District Office with the Kadıköy e.V ..

This photo project not only contributes to the cultural connection between Berlin and Istanbul, but also enables an intensive exchange between the photographers and the residents of the visited districts. The exhibition thus serves as a bridge between the two cities and their people.
