Big chess tournament for seniors: fight for the title!

On September 5, 2025, the Schach-Club Kreuzberg e.V., in cooperation with the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district office, announced the event of the 29th inter-district rapid chess tournament for older players. The tournament will take place on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the Schach-Club Kreuzberg, Böcklerstraße 1, 10969 Berlin. Registration is possible until 1:30 p.m. All chess enthusiasts born in 1970 or earlier are eligible to participate.

A game mode was set for the event, which consists of seven rounds in the Swiss system, with a reflection time of 15 minutes per game and player. The maximum number of participants is limited to 32 players. An entry fee of 5 euros must be paid upon registration. There are various non-cash prizes for the best chess players, including a special prize for the best non-active player. Registrations are required by October 10, 2025 at the latest; participation is not possible without prior registration.

Organization and rules

The tournament will be organized under the leadership of Helmut Abraham, the senior representative, who will also announce the rules. This is not the first tournament to be conducted with this in mind; As part of the 25th inter-district senior championship, participants were able to play chess under hygienic conditions. This event is considered part of a long tradition of senior chess tournaments in Berlin, helping to strengthen the chess community and promote the joy of the game.
