Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg sets a sign of the rights of the riders
On October 7, 2024, the Berlin Kiez will become the stage for an action day that focuses on human dignity and fair working conditions. The alarming employment relationships of the riders, the drivers of food and grocery delivery services, are the focus. The district office Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, together with the advisory center for migration and good work (Bema), has decided to actively struggle for the rights of these often overlooked workers.
On this important date - the world day for crumporary work - consultants of Bema, employees of the district and committed union members march through the streets of Berlin to inform about the strict labor rights. The initiative not only promises information, but also wants to set an example. "We don't let the workers' voices fall silent!" is the motto that is in the air.
A commitment to the rights of the employees
Oliver Nöll, the responsible district councilor, leaves no doubt as important for him the rights of employees: "Berlin and in particular Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg are the hotspot of the platform-based delivery service industry nationwide." He underlines the urgency to stop this "wild west western" of the work culture and to improve working conditions.
At a time when you can order everything in a matter of seconds - from food to technology - Nöll demands a basic turn. "This industry has not exactly developed a call as a friendly unions," he says. "We, as the district office, are committed to sustainable management that promotes wages and socially secured employment relationships."
With this commitment, the district office shows that it is supported by the workers. "On the day of the campaign, we will actively participate in the clarification and advice on labor law," promises Nöll. The individual stories of the riders, who often work under precarious conditions, are now in the spotlight. This action is not only important - it is overdue!
