Mirrianne Mahn, who works not only as an author, but also as an activist and theater maker, is presented as part of the SHE*Talks series of events. This series is a cooperation between the Pablo Neruda district central library and the equal opportunities officer. At the event, a quote from Audre Lorde, "Your Silence Will not Protect You", is quoted, which underlines the thematic focus of dealing with voices of flinta* authors and emphasizes that a variety of perspectives are asked. The novel "Issa" unfolds the portrait of a family that is shaped by strong women. The focus is on the protagonist Issa, who is pregnant and flies to Douala, Cameroon. Her journey is motivated by her mother's concern for the life during the birth. (https://www.rowohlt.de/verlag/rights/mirrianne-mahn-mahn-mahn-978003906) There, Issa should follow the healing path of rituals under the supervision of her grandmothers. Central topics are the inheritance of trauma, striving for self -determination and the unshakable will.
The novel strongly illuminates the feeling of belonging and alienation, since ISSA feels torn between cultures: it feels too black in Frankfurt and in German in Buea. The stories of five women who have been connected to each other over more than a century also address colonial exploitation and the struggle for identity and self -determination. The book presentation is part of a greater discourse on cultural identity and the role of gender in the literature. In today's time, in which diversity and inclusion, increasingly gaining importance, the promotion of Flinta* authors is of essential importance. The interest in the event and in the work of Mirrianne Mahn shows how important it is to promote and make various voices in the literary area.
