Honoring the guest and contract workers: Monument planned in the district

Honoring the guest and contract workers: Monument planned in the district
a new monument to the history of the guest and contract workers
A significant development is in front of the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg district, because the district office actively campaigns for the establishment of a monument that is dedicated to the first generation of guest and contract workers. This measure is supported by the district committee commission and the Committee on Culture and Education of the District Assembly, based on two applications from the district assembly.
District Mayor Clara Herrmann was enthusiastic about the planned establishment of the monument. It emphasized the importance that migrant self -organizations and individuals are included in the planning in order to develop ideas for the location and a competition process. The financing of the monument has already been taken into account in the current double budget, and thanks to the commitment of the senators, the procedure for implementation is now initiated. This monument will take up an important aspect of history, which has so far often been neglected.
Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, as a central east-west district of Berlin, has a rich history and has been significantly shaped by the first generation of guest and contract workers. The planned honor is therefore not only symbolically important, but also a recognition of your contribution to urban development.
The establishment of the monument will be a significant step in order to bring this often overlooked group of people back to public awareness and to appreciate their role in city history.
